Piquet Hill Stud was started by Peter Jackson at Te Akau on North Island west coast hill country in 1966. Tom and William Jackson joined the breeding operation in 2003 and both take an active role in the Stud.
The stud is run at commercial stocking rates on tough hill country. Rainfall averages 1125mm with dry summers and dry Autumns the norm. Large numbers of commercial ewes were screened from a 10,000 ewe flock. It has always been operated under an easy-care policy with no shepherding.
The major emphasis has always been on fertility, growth rate, wool weight and facial eczema tolerance. Our aim is to breed the most profitable sheep for NZ hill country farmers.
The Stud sells in excess of 1000 rams annually.
